The 15 Best Dual-Zone Wine Coolers

There are different wines for different occasions, whether you’re saving it for a birthday anniversary, special occasion, or you just want to open a bottle because you feel like it. To keep certain wines cool, a refrigerator is not ideal. Instead you want a wine cooler.

A wine lover wouldn’t want their bottles of reds or whites to be in between their groceries. People who collect wines, especially those who collect specific vintages would want their bottles of wine out of direct sunlight or fluorescent lights as this would give them an unpleasant smell and can ruin the wine itself.

They should be stored in perfect room temperature, not too cold as the wine would oxidize and not too warm or else it would slow down the aging process. A vintage bottle of wine should be in perfect humidity as well as drying of corks to prevent moles and minimize evaporation.

Isolating there from the groceries or products, that smell is a must as well. The best solution to this is to have your very own wine cooler. With that, our team has listed some of the five best wine coolers on the market today.

What are the most important features I should have in a wine cooler?

Storing your wine in the right environment and serving it at the correct temperature is essential to getting the most out of every bottle. Wine coolers are specifically designed to hold bottles at the ideal serving temperature.

They have horizontal shelves so the liquid flows towards the neck so that the cork won’t dry out and crack. This prevents air from getting into the bottle. Here’s what you need to know to choose the best refrigerator for your wine collection. You’ll need to consider:

  • Placement.
  • Capacity and temperature settings.
  • Temperature settings.
  • Features
  1. Placement

First, decide where you’re going to put your wine fridge. That will determine if you need a freestanding or under counter model. Built-in wine coolers are vented out the front so they can be installed within cabinetry.

They come in a variety of widths to fit existing spaces. There even slim 15 inch designs, perfect for replacing an outdated trash compactor. Freestanding wine coolers are vented on the side or the back so they’re not suited for cabinet installation.  These models have finished sides which means they’ll look great standing on their own.

If your wine cooler will be in the kitchen, consider placing it outside of the regular traffic pattern so you can grab a bottle without interrupting the cook. They’re even wine coolers approved for outdoor use, which are great for party decks, outdoor kitchens and poolside entertaining.

  1. Capacity and Temperature Settings

You’ll want to consider how big your wine collection is and what varietals you’ll be storing. Wine coolers come in designs that hold as few as seven bottles to more than 100. Some have special shelves designed to hold larger bottles like burgundies.

Unlike standard beverage centers, which keep beer and soft drinks ice cold wine coolers are designed to hold your collection at the perfect serving temperature. Red wine is typically served between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, white wine between 50 and 60 degrees and sparkling wines are best chilled to 40 and 50 degrees.

If you’ll be storing more than one type of wine in the same cooler, consider a dual zone model so you can have perfectly chilled wine on hand, no matter what’s on the menu.  Once you know where your wine cooler will be installed and what you’ll be storing in it, it’s time to consider special features.

  1. Special features

If you need to keep your collection secure, you can get a model with a walking door or door alarm. Choose the wine cooler with a display shelf to keep special bottles front and center.

Glass doors with UV protection, filter out light that can damage your wine. So remember when shopping for a wine cooler, consider placement, capacity and temperature settings and special features.

FAQs

  1. What is the difference between a wine fridge and a regular fridge?

A normal fridge that you have in your kitchen gets much colder than a wine fridge. They also generate some vibration which can negatively impact the wine, and they dehumidify the air in the, and allows the cook to shrink and a shrinking corporate allow air into the wine that then oxidized the wine.

So there’s a substantial differences between a standard fridge and a wine fridge. The key elements in the wine cabinets are the fact that the cabinet can breathe and allow humidity to flow from the outer atmosphere fit into the cabinet whereas again, the domestic fridge doesn’t, it’s a sealed unit.

By and large, wine fridge has glass doors. This is a very prominent feature in many countries. People love the interaction, the visual interaction with the wines, although it’s not necessarily the best way to sell your wine

Wine fridges have been created with triple glazing, with ultraviolet tents and screens, and of course the black interior further absorbs whatever life does get in there. The key aspect is to control the environment in which the wine is being kept and light is certainly one of those aspects that need to be eliminated as far as possible, particularly ultraviolet light

  1. What’s the real difference between a freestanding and a built-in wine cooler, and why did the builtin wine coolers cost so much more?

Customers would be attracted to a freestanding unit because it frequently offers a much cheaper price point and its dimensions usually allow it to be slid into a built-in space. Unfortunately, that’s a bad idea, and the reason is ventilation.

All wine coolers produce heat during operation and it’s important that that heat is properly vented away from the unit, or it may not function as designed. Now, when you try and force a freestanding unit into a built-in space, three bad things can happen.

  1. The unit may not be able to reach and maintain the temperatures it was designed to reach.
  2. You may short the overall lifespan of your wine cooler.
  3. You may actually even void the manufacturer’s warranty.

What you’ll notice with a built-in design wine cooler is that it will have event located under the front door that allows it to channel the heat away from the unit even when it’s within a tight built-in space.

  1. Can you put a freestanding unit in a built in space?

Yes, you actually can. And here’s the guideline that you should use. If you’re going to try this, you need to allow two to three inches on both sides of the unit, the top and the back to create airflow all the way around the unit and dissipate the heat properly.

That usually will work, unfortunately, since you’re building it in and you’re going for a tight built-in look, you’re not going to have that visually, because you’re going to have those inches all the way around the unit.

  1. Should I get a single or dual zone wine cooler?

Start with a dual zone wine cooler allows you to create two separate independent temperature zones within the same unit. And this can come in handy if you’re hoping to store both red and white wines, but have them at different temperature zones.

If you’re considering a dual zone wine color, and one of the storage areas is larger than the other, make sure it’s temporary range matches the type of wine you will primarily be storing.

  1. Can I store all sizes of bottles within a standard wine cooler?

Well, the answer is yes and no. No because certain bottle sizes such as many Pinot and water bottles will include a thicker larger diameter bottle in the middle, which may when you place it on a standard storage rack, bump up against the bottom of the rack above it.

Now, the best way to solve this problem is simply to remove one of the shelves from the cooler, creating more space for the larger bottle to sit. Unfortunately, removing a shelf will reduce the coolest overall storage capacity, so it’s a trade off.

Keep in mind that if you drink a large selection of different wine varieties, you may need to remove a shelf or two to accommodate all bottle types.

  1. What are the different types of wine coolers?

Now, there are basically four different types of wine coolers.

  • Freestanding
  • Built-in or under counter
  • Single zone
  • Dual zone

Freestanding

A freestanding wine cooler generally will event out of the back of the unit thus, you need to leave plenty of ventilation space. Generally that’s two to three inches on each side, as well as the top and about three to four inches in the rear.

Built-in or under counter

Now built-in wine cooler is meant to go into existing cabinetry like under a kitchen counter, but you can generally tell a built-in wine cooler because they have the front exhaust there at the bottom.

Single Zone

Now single zone wine cooler will keep an even temperature zone throughout the entire unit. Thus, they’re perfect for storing just one type of wine. Be it red, white, or sparkling.

Dual Zone

Dual zone wine cooler will have two independent temperature zones that operate independently of each other. Thus, you can store different types of wine, be it red or white or white and sparkling or red and sparkling.

8.    How do you choose the right thermoelectric coolers?

Thermoelectric cooling is a new way to refrigerate. That operates on a brand new technology. It’s an inexpensive environmentally friendly and whisper quiet, alternative to traditional compressor refrigerators.

But before you buy a Thermoelectric cooler, there are some factors that will help you determine if they’re the right fit for your needs. Thermoelectric coolers are very effective, but they don’t have the same muscle that a compressor cooler can manage.

Most Thermoelectric units operate well between 51 degrees and 63 degrees Fahrenheit. If you need lower temperatures, you may want to consider one of our compressor coolers.

Another consideration while you’re deciding is your coolers, location. Thermoelectric coolers cool, very effectively in the open, but their efficiency is decreased if they lose air flow.

Make sure you’re allowing for six inches of clearance on every side and that you never enclosed the unit in custom cabinetry or inside of a cupboard. A thermal electric unit cannot cool effectively if it’s enclosed.

The ideal home for a thermal electric unit would be air conditioned, so that temperature fluctuations wouldn’t alter the unit’s efficiency.

  1. What does Dual Temperature control mean?

So what does dual temperature control mean? It means you can store both your reds and the whites in the same wine fridge at two different temperatures, which is fantastic because you do want your reds and your white served at two different temperatures.

  1. What temperature should I be serving my wine at?

Well, if you’re serving sparkling wine, you want to make sure that it is super cold. We’re looking at 40 to 50 degrees because there’s nothing worse than having a bottle of sparkling wine that is way too warm.

What happens is you pop it and the sparkling wine goes flying everywhere. You look like an idiot and you lose half your bottle of wine, which is a total buzzkill at any party, especially a holiday party.

White wines and roses: You want to make sure those are stored at about 50 to 60 degrees. One of the problems people have is they put their white wines in the refrigerator and that’s way too whole so they have to pull it out, they serve it and what happens when the wine is too cold, that you actually can’t really get the proper flavors of the wine coming out, which is no good.

And then red wines are commonly served way too warm. The proper temperature is 60 to 70 degrees. There’s nothing worse than having like a big Zen and it’s way too hot. That’s going to bring out the alcohol and burn your throat. You want to make sure your red wines at served up between 60 and 70 degrees.

Expert Tip: I give you a little bit of range because everybody likes to drink wine a little bit different, so now you’ve got some options to choose from.

Conclusion:

Wine coolers are up for the game of people who want to store their wine in an inexpensive yet conventional way. They create absolute conditions for wine storage, unlike refrigerators, that can be too cold for wine to be stored. It’s convenient and compact, and you can store your wines away from other food products, such as beverages, fruits, or food.
